We offer a shared experience where native Kalinga Culture-Bearer, Jenny Bawer Young, teaches the traditional backstrap weaving in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Tradition is at the heart of her work. From ancient hands, passed from generation to generation, the art of Laga is being preserved, promoted, shared, and maintained from Kalinga to California.

In sharing this tradition with her family, Jenny Bawer Young has demonstrated that traditions are truly living. Maintaining the rich cultural heritage she grew up with is her main goal. Founding Kalingafornia Laga fulfilled a dream she had upon immigrating to the United States.

Kalingafornia Laga members offer:

  • Weaving demonstrations to showcase Kalinga traditional weaving

  • Lectures to educate the public about Kalinga weaving designs and patterns

  • Workshops to learn Kalinga weaving, music, dancing, and chants
